The New Moon in Aquarius on February 10th, 2013. And this new moon’s potential has the flavor of ‘freedom from the norm or conventional.’  The New Moon in Aquarius suggests putting your personalized unique signature on things and being innovative with your long-term goals and dreams. It is also the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Water Snake. A year where the realm of feelings, emotions and empathy are heightened.

Why is it the Year of the Water Snake and not Year of the Snake? According to the Chinese Zodiac each sign is made of up of one of the five elements.  February 10, 2013 marks the beginning of the Year of the Water Snake. The reason for this year being the Year of the Water Snake and not Snake is because within each twelve year cycle, there are five year cycles of various elements.

The Chinese elements are; earth, water, fire, wood and metal. This year, 2013,  highlights the element of water, therefore making it the year of the water Snake. The water element is that of being non-invasive and of gentle movement, where feelings, emotions, intuition, empathy and sensitivity are emphasized.

What are some key potentials to work with  during the Year of the Water Snake? This is a good year to expand self-knowledge, study as well as learn how to get along with other people in the art of relating. Meditation, inquiry, contemplation are helpful ways to not only relax but also to restore peace within during the Year of the Water Snake. Symbolically the Year of the Water Snake has the potential for deep Spiritual renewal as well as powerful transformation. People will turn to Spirituality as life in the physical world goes through ongoing bursts of intense transformation. Many will be seeking or searching for deep inner peace and less stress.

The New Moon in Aquarius has layers of vibration to it. It can be symbolic yet also may be noticeable in the physical level. When looking at the strongest elements during this new moon phase it is air and water element.

The astrological sign of Aquarius is an air element and a fixed mode of energy, is at ease with abstract world, thinking, thought, ideas and concepts. Oftentimes too much at ease in the future or within the abstract when the energy goes off-balance.  Living in the future within the mind does not allow for real change to occur within the present moment.The planet of awakening, Uranus governs over Aquarius and therefore the theme is breaking-free, individuality as well as detachment and objectivity. It is allowing the “Inner Genius” Archetype to express and experiment.

The Sun/Moon and Venus are all in Aquarius now. This symbolizes a group of planetary energy focus upon Aquarian themes, so find real constructive outlets for creative energy to be put into. Themes such as, social gatherings, friends, like minded groups and humanitarian causes are relevant now. You may feel to communicate with friends who have similar vision or ideals or meet new people who have similar interests.

Wherever 21 degrees Aquarius lands in your Natal Chart is the area of life or themes that have the golden potential for a “fresh start” signified by the New Moon energy, and “innovation energy” signified by Aquarius. You will have the urge to break away from the conventional to do things in your unique way expressing more of your individuality and freedom to create and experiment than remaining stuck within a certain set of restrictions.

Three planets are in the sign of Pisces, Mercury, Mars and Neptune, including Chiron (not really a planet but relevant.) There is a strong Pisces theme, that of the mystical, transcendence or diving into the depths of emotion or escapism. At the time of the New Moon in Aquarius, Mercury is in Pisces already entering its prep-phase for the upcoming Retrograde which begins on February 23rd. What issues or themes are coming up already? Communication? Compassion? Forgiveness? Perceiving with higher vision?
